Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)
Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping is a surgery that improves the appearance and/or function of the nose. Being such an integral part of facial balance, a rhinoplasty requires a board-certified plastic surgeon who can handle the complexity of nose surgery. Niki Christopoulos MD, FACS will take into account your goals and carefully evaluate your facial features to achieve the most balanced and natural results.
A rhinoplasty surgery can achieve numerous types of results, including reducing or increasing the size of the nose, altering the shape, smoothing a prominent hump, and altering the size and shape of the nostrils. It can also help correct the airway passage to relieve some breathing problems.
Am I a good candidate for a Rhinoplasty?
Dr. Niki Christopoulos will determine if you are an ideal candidate for a nose reshaping procedure during your cosmetic consultation. However, you may be a fine candidate if you wish to correct:
- Overall size of the nose to achieve a natural facial balance
- A prominent hump or depression seen on profile of the nose
- The width of the nose
- The tip of the nose
- The size or shape of the nostrils
- Overall nasal asymmetry
Dr. Niki Christopoulos’ Approach To A Rhinoplasty Procedure
Depending on the type rhinoplasty you need based on your consultation, Dr. Christopoulos will use either an open or a closed approach for your procedure. A closed rhinoplasty involves a small incision inside the nose, with no visible external incision. An open procedure is made across the columella, the narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils. With either method, Dr. Christopoulos will lift the soft tissues of the nose to reshape and sculpt the bone and cartilage underneath for the desired result. Afterwards, a small splint will be applied to the nose for support during the initial healing stages after the surgery, and will be removed after one week.
Dr. Christopoulos is a double-board certified plastic surgeon and performs her surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgical facility. Anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist using either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia for your comfort and safety during the procedure. The procedure can take anywhere from 1-3 hours, although complicated procedures may take longer.
Rhinoplasty Recovery and Results
Recovery length depends on the type and complexity of surgery that was performed. While swelling and healing time varies from person to person, it is normal to expect some stuffiness as well as bruising and swelling in the area for a few days. Most patients can return to daily activity after one week. Full results will appear over time as your new nasal contours gradual refines to the permanent desired effect. A healthy lifestyle and dedicated sun protection will be key in keeping the results of your new appearance!
